Should I prepare anything before the estimator arrives?
Make notes of items that may require special handling and discuss them in detail with the estimator. If items are to be delivered to different locations or shipped in different ways, tag them to indicate the location and/or the shipping process. Find out if your homeowners insurance policy covers "goods in transit". Few policies provide such coverage and if they do it is only for total loss. What should I pack myself?
Pack your jewelry, negotiable papers and important documents. Make sure you know where they are at all times.
A friend said I could deduct moving expenses from my taxes. Is this true and how do I do it?
Yes, you can make certain deductions. The IRS web site has information and forms that you may need that are available to download. Search the IRS site using terms such as "Moving Expenses", "Foreign Moving Expenses", or "Employee Moving Expenses".
